London insurance group Wellington has launched a new product designed to cover the business costs of an outbreak of Avian Flu.
Wellington Underwriting Agencies Limited (WUAL), manager of Wellington Syndicate 2020 at Lloyd’s, is to offer Avian Influenza business interruption cover designed specifically for broiler farmers in the United States.
The product will cover business interruption incurred by US broiler farmers following the government slaughter of poultry by order of USDA following the contraction of the H5N1 strain of Avian Influenza on their farms.
Nigel Guillaume-Smith, Underwriting Director of WUAL said: “We have been monitoring Avian Flu for some years. This knowledge has enabled us to create a unique product, providing coverage to US broiler farmer, which supplements US government Avian Flu response plans.”
