The London Market swapped its underwriting pens for some less than smart cars in a very unusual charity event last month. Wellington Underwriting was at the front of the grid for an event which saw a range of bizarrely decorated cars head off from Lime Street to Carcassonne in France. The aim was to raise money for their chosen charity, Toynbee Hall, a local organisation that supports disadvantaged young people from Tower Hamlets.
The cars2carcassonne event will see the insurance industry and associated firms provide teams to take part in a treasure hunt, leading them from central London to Carcassone, and finishing in the backdrop of the medieval city.
Having bought and bizarrely decorated a jalopy, team mates will don fancy dress and cross the channel for a four-day crawl through the French countryside: deciphering clues, collecting objects and performing simple tasks along the way.
David Turner of Wellington Underwriting said, “It is great fun. Everyone was very enthusiastic and keen to be part of this charity event. Wearing fancy dress and driving decorated cars is a novel way of raising money for Toynbee Hall and having fun at the same time. We wish everyone a huge success and hope this inaugural event is the start of greater things to come.”
